Last Monday, the IPCC released its 2018 Special Report>> on the impact of global warming of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The headline: Climate change is accelerating at a dangerous pace and poses existential risks to people, ecosystems and business, with dramatic differences between 2°C and 1.5°C scenarios.

 

The solution is not incremental change. It means rapid decarbonisation - with everyone and every solution brought to bear. It means radical transformation. But it also means opportunity. The report specifies that a 1.5°C limit leads to many contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals. Thus, robust climate action means lower risk of poverty, less sea level rise, greater food and water scarcity, and better conservation of biodiversity.
