The CO2 Neutral Company label from CO2logic helps reinforce actions taken by leading businesses to calculate and reduce their carbon footprint, and address any remaining emissions by channeling finance to certified carbon credits on a yearly basis. The label has specific requirements that companies must follow, which are inspired by the GHG Protocol and SBTi. The label is validated the first year then at least every 3 years by Vinçotte (Member of Group Kiwa), an independent third-party auditor. This adds an extra layer of credibility to the label, especially as requirements on corporate climate action and claims continue to evolve.
In March 2022, the Government of the Brussels Capital Region launched the “Shifting Economy" strategy with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. At the core of this strategy is the concept of "corporate social and environmental exemplarity," which aligns with international standards such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the European Union's taxonomy of sustainable activities.
The Brussels-Capital Region has established criteria based on these guidelines to encourage and recognize local companies that demonstrate outstanding social and environmental responsibility. Since then, Brussels Economy and Employment – a governmental organization responsible for managing and promoting economic development and employment in the Brussels-Capital Region – has been recognizing companies that meet these demanding criteria as “exemplary". The aim of the “Exemplary" recognition is to promote more sustainable and equitable economic practices.
After a thorough review of the CO2 Neutral label's protocols and processes, Brussels Economy and Employment has recognized CO2logic's Company, Site, and Headquarter labels as proof of exemplarity in the environmental dimension. The CO2 Neutral label certifies that a company's carbon footprint is calculated, reduced and compensated on a yearly basis. Being exemplary is a proof of these credible climate commitments.
Commenting on the announcement, Mathieu Cribellier, Managing Director of CO2logic, a South Pole company, said: "At CO2logic, we are proud to have our label recognized as a proof of exemplarity. This achievement highlights our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in a dynamic regulatory landscape and meeting consumers' growing expectations. This official recognition from the Brussels-Capital public authorities is a welcome acknowledgement of the true commitment and credible climate action taken by every company that is awarded our label."
Moreover, exemplary companies may qualify for increased financial benefits from the Brussels-Capital Region, including:
